Careers

Build with us.

We are looking for a small number of people who can think clearly under pressure, who treat capital with seriousness, and who want the responsibility that comes with operating in markets rather than around them.

Spyzen is intentionally small, and that shapes what we offer. You will not be one of hundreds. You will work directly on positions that matter to the firm, and you will be expected to think and act accordingly.

Current Openings

We are not actively hiring. When we open roles, they will be listed on this page. Check this page for updates.

What We Look For

The qualities, not the credentials.

We do not hire by checklist. The people who fit at Spyzen tend to share four qualities, none of which appear on a CV, all of which become obvious quickly in practice.

Comfort with being wrong.

Markets will prove you wrong frequently. The question is whether you change your mind on evidence, defend your position with rigour, or quietly drift away from a thesis you no longer believe. We hire for the first.

Discipline without supervision.

Nobody is going to tell you to size down before a high-volatility event, or to step away from the screen when you are not seeing the market clearly. The internal voice that does that is either there or it isn’t. We hire for the one that is.

Curiosity that ends in conviction.

Reading widely, looking at adjacent markets, asking why something works rather than just that it does — this is half the job. The other half is reaching a view firm enough to size against and act on. People who do only the first half become interesting commentators. People who do both become traders.

Honesty about P&L.

Profitable months happen for the right reasons and for the wrong reasons, and the difference matters more than the number. We want people who can tell which is which, in their own trading, without flinching.

How We Work

Direct exposure. Small team. Real ownership.

Working at a small proprietary firm is unlike working at a larger institution. There are no committees to navigate, no layers of approval on every position, no quarterly performance review pegged to factors outside your control. The trade-off is that there are also no large support structures. The systems that exist are the systems you help build.

For the right person, the upsides are significant. You will see real positions in real markets early. You will work directly with the founders, not through layers of intermediation. The strategies you develop, if they prove out, will trade actual capital — not paper, not a simulator. The mistakes you make will cost the firm money, and you will be expected to understand why they happened and what you will do differently.

We think this is the most honest way to learn markets. It is also the most demanding.

Future Opportunities

If you believe you would fit at Spyzen and want to be considered when a role opens, you may write to us with a brief introduction.

A short note about your background, what you trade or research, and why you think Spyzen interests you is sufficient. Detailed CVs are not necessary at this stage. We respond to messages individually. Responses may not be immediate.
